Becoming a Youth Sports Official

The need for youth sports officials is projected to grow considerably as youth sports increases and increasing numbers of officials leave the profession.

Flag Football is rapidly increasing in the U.S. as more than 2.4 million youth participate in neighborhood, recreation, and school leagues.
Basketball is an international sport played in more than 200 countries. Teaching youth how to play and officiate basketball can lead to a life long love of the sport and an exciting part time job or professional career.
Soccer
Course Details
The 2026 FIFA World Cup, soccer's most prestigious tournament, will be the largest ever, featuring an expanded field of 48 teams co-hosted by the United States, Canada, and Mexico. The competition runs from June 11 to July 19, 2026, and will introduce a new format with 12 groups and a round of 32 knockout phase, resulting in a total of 104 matches across 16 cities.
The course includes classroom and virtual reality lessons, field/court experience, and performance assessments to determine mastery of officiating knowledge. Leadership, teamwork, and communication skills are an integral part of the course. Successful completion of the course could make participants eligible for assignment as sports officials in 2026.
